I Found My Smile

When Life Took Hold

For many years, the pressures of life held me in a grip from which escape seemed impossible. They drew me away from the person my gracious Creator intended me to become—more reflective of Him and less governed by fear.

Yet He did not give me a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and a sound mind.

Before reaching adulthood, I was energetic and full of vitality. I had no serious concerns and few burdens upon my mind; my face was often illuminated by a warm smile.

Over time, however, I became increasingly aware of the changes: physical tension, persistent worry and uncertainty, periods of anxiety, headaches, and, on occasion, a desire to withdraw from it all.

The Turning Point

I began to recover my smile by deciding to step away for a period of rest and reflection. The decision was not straightforward: thoughts my about finances and being away from the children threatened to overwhelm me. Nevertheless, through Jesus Christ, I found the strength to prevail.

With renewed conviction, I resolved that I would no longer remain captive to such thoughts. Nor would I permit the demands and pressures of life to determine my emotional well-being or, ultimately, my actions.

A Restorative Retreat

I travelled to Yorkshire to attend a seven-day health and education retreat at Leeming Garth Manor, owned and operated by Dr Lucille and Dr Arthur Fifield. Each day offered a programme of restorative activities, including morning manna (devotion), exercise, digestive walks, cleansing juices, plant-based meals, colon hydrotherapy, a full-body massage, and a range of informative presentations and practical demonstrations. The opportunity to share this experience with fellow health guests, therapists, and members of the kitchen staff was equally meaningful. Throughout the retreat, I rediscovered a more joyful and uninhibited part of myself and, in doing so, found my smile once again.
